A CCTV camera showing no picture is one of the more common faults we’re asked about, and it can come from several different causes xe2x80x94 not always the camera itself.
Power issues
If a camera has lost power, whether from a faulty power supply, a tripped connection, or a cabling fault, it will typically show as offline or blank rather than displaying a distorted image.
Cabling or connection faults
Damaged cabling, loose connectors or network issues (for IP cameras) can all interrupt the video feed even when the camera itself is working correctly.
Camera hardware failure
Cameras do fail over time, particularly older units or ones exposed to harsh weather conditions without adequate protection.
Recorder-side settings
Sometimes the issue isn’t the camera at all xe2x80x94 a channel setting or configuration change on the DVR/NVR can also cause a blank image.
Getting it diagnosed properly
Because these causes look similar from the outside, proper diagnosis is the fastest way to an actual fix rather than guessing and replacing parts unnecessarily. See our CCTV repair page for more on how this process works, or request assistance directly.
